How happy I am to be able to walk among the shrubs, the trees, the woods, the grass and the rocks! For the woods, the trees and the rocks give man the resonance he needs. — Beethoven

This concert will be performed in memory of Maestro Charles Ansbacher (October 5, 1942–September 12, 2010)

The Qianlong Emperor created a garden that harmonized the spirit through the unity of art, architecture and nature. In 1808, a few years after the emperor's death, Beethoven wrote the Pastoral Symphony, an expression of the composer's similar love of nature and the equilibrium it offered. At PEM, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra (BLO) performs Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony in F major, George Frideric Handel's Water Music and other classical works inspired by nature. Joan Landry will be conducting.

Made possible through the generous support of Fay Chandler with Susan and Appy Chandler. Concert ticket holders are invited from 6 to 8:30 pm to visit The Emperor's Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City exhibition galleries.

BLO

The BLO performs in significant architectural, historical and geographical settings throughout the Boston area. The concerts, always free of charge, help foster appreciation of fine music and special settings.
